Last night a party was held in Milton Daniel Honors Dorm for prospective students. My RA Laura and I went on an expedition to scout nervous, incoming freshman, intimidate them a little with our college student awesomeness, and steal food from their fancy, catered buffet. Before we could get to the line, however, we spotted the elusive Dr. Pitcock, at the end of the table. We ran forward to talk to him, and the first thing he said to me was “Are you getting excited for Europe?”
To which I replied “Of course!”
It seemed like fate seeing him there and talking to him about the trip since just a day before I (and by “I” I mean my mother) had booked my plane tickets. Nothing made me happier than seeing “Departing Phoenix, AZ: May 16 Arriving Berlin, Germany: May 17” (with a quick delay in Newark, NJ).
Aside from the obvious things to be excited about when going to Europe (food, historical sites, great people, new languages, food, friends, more food etc.) one part of the trip that I look forward to the most is Interlaken, Switzerland. Why? Two words. Extreme Sports.
Cave jumping, cliff diving, hang gliding, bungee jumping, parasailing, anything you could ever want! Since going skydiving for my birthday last year I’ve become an extreme sports junkie. Only in my mind of course since I don’t have the money to actually do extreme sports, but this summer I will.
My X Sport of choice? Hang gliding! To fly like a bird on the wings of the air and the back of a random Australian professional, it will be magical. I am inspired by my friend Caitlin, who’s in this hang-gliding picture from last year’s trip, and she has told me it’s a life changing experience.
I can’t wait to find out if she’s right!
