Oh hey there.

What’s up?

OMG no way! Same here.

Anyway, I wanted to take some time out of this fleeting escapade they call life (and by they I mean “The Man”. Feel free to call it whatever you want as an act of rebellion. I choose to call that fleeting escapade “Leonidas”) to talk about something that I know has been pressing on your stomach: the food here at TCU. I understand very well that sometimes collegiate grub can get a fairly negative reputation, but I am being completely honest with you when I say that the food at TCU is the best I’ve ever had in my Leonidas. In this entry, I will focus on the fan-favorite/feared Market Square, our main dining area where you will most likely consume a majority of your sustenance freshman year.

Simply, the selection is diverse, the quality is high, the taste buds are happy. They have a sandwich bar with an infinite amount of combinations (turkey and chicken on wheat with pickles, lettuce, onions, and honey mustard is the best, but that was obvious). They have a stir-fry where you pick your own ingredients. They have fresh fruit every day. No joke. And I know what you’re thinking, “Cody, you say fresh fruit, but does that include the lope? How bout the nap?” And to you, my fruit slang slinging friend, I say “They indeed have cantaloupe, pineapple, and much more!” To make you feel more at home, they have this one section whose name escapes me where they cook things that mom/dad/he/she/they/who? would make at home, like a huge turkey, or ham, or tacos, and they serve it with some vegetables and another side. But it’s not that kind of gross camp food you had at that gross camp you went to that one time. It’s legitimate food, and it tastes like love.

They also have a salad bar and its foil, fresh pizza. You can eat healthy, you can not eat healthy. The freshman fifteen can be a delicious reality or the freshman negative fifteen can be a delicious reality. Your call. It’s just all about trying new things and not falling into a diet of redundancy. Plus, you can go in there AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT with your freshman meal plan. Seriously. Read that again. Take it in. Thirsty? Go grab a quick drink. Hungry? Drop by for an apple. Tired? That’s irrelevant, I don’t know why you brought it up. But basically the beauty of the unlimited meal plan is that you don’t have to stress about how big each meal is and planning out an attempt to be cost-effective, you can just go when you feel like it, as many times as you want. Just don’t forget your ID.

Fun fact, or a classic “double F” if you will, the people that work in Market Square are the coolest, nicest people. I am friends with many of the employees, and they love to ask you how your day is going and how everything is. They legitimately care about the students, and it makes you feel really good every time you go in to eat. The service at TCU, both in Market Square and everywhere else, is something special, and it is something that makes me even more proud to be a Horned Frog.

To drink, they have basically any liquid you could e’er desire. There exists this gigantic machine that dispenses all these different sodas and beverages. It’s intimidating, and I enjoy watching people who have never used it stand in front of it for minutes at a time, trying to figure out its magic. They also have juices, coffees, milks, and waters. My typical day consists of two glasses of 2% milk, a few bottles full of Dasani strawberry flavored water, and 18 cups of coffee.  Just kidding! I don’t drink 2%, I drink whole milk. I’m no sissy.

I can’t say enough about the incredible dining experience that is Market Square. If I was to cook up all my words on the subject and if you were to eat them, you would gain your verbal freshman fifteen. Quite simply, I love it, and you will love it too. The food in Market Square will be but another wonderful drop in the beautiful pond that is your Leonidas here at TCU.
