Major: Religion with a minor in Business
What I want to do with my major: That’s a great question… Any time I tell someone that I am a Religion major, the typical response is, “That’s awesome! (pause…) What do you want to do with that?” To be honest, I’m not exactly sure. Seminary is a possibility. Whatever I end up doing, I hope to be working with youth in some way.
Campus involvement: Honors Ambassadors, Chi Omega, TCU Ambassadors, TCU Women’s Club Soccer, Community Renewal, TCU Intramurals
Why I chose TCU: When I was looking at colleges, TCU was just about the only school I applied to in Texas. I was definitely planning on going out of state, but after visiting the campus, my mind was changed. The day I visited, it was cold and rainy, but that didn’t seem to matter. My tour guide, as well as just about every student I saw on campus, looked extremely happy here. Everyone I met was genuinely nice and the campus was beautiful. Plus, my older sister went to TCU so I already knew the academics were awesome.
Why I’m glad I joined the JVR: The Honors College has given me so many opportunities and the classes are by far my favorite. Above all else though, the community within the program is unlike any other. The professors, faculty, and other students are amazing people who only want to see you succeed. I met my best friends through living in Milton Daniel my freshman year.
Favorite Honors class: Understanding Religion: Texts & Ideas- The Bible with Dr. Grant. I absolutely loved this class. Even though it was quite challenging, Dr. Grant was an awesome professor and certainly kept the class interesting with his “Lottery.” I’m happy to say that he is now my advisor!
Favorite place on TCU’s Campus: This year, I’d have to say the Tom Brown/Pete Wright apartments because that is where most of my friends live. However, these are all of my friends that I met in Milton Daniel Hall last year, which was by far my favorite. The people who lived there were so fun and interesting and the community there is awesome.
Favorite JVR memory: I have had so many cool experiences through JVR, but one of my favorite events was when Roger Williams, who is running for Congress, came to talk to us. It was a small event, which gave us the opportunity to listen to his goals as a politician as well as meet him after he spoke.
Coolest TCU or JVR experience: Snowpocalypse 2011! Winter of my freshman year, there was a freak snow/ice storm that kept us out of school for a week. During this time, I had some of the funniest, most memorable moments with my friends. We watched a ton of movies, went sledding, had the most epic snowball fight of all time, and made a giant snowman! It was a crazy, but amazing week!
Favorite TV show and why: Modern Family- This show never fails to make me laugh!
Three unusual things about myself:
1. I don’t have a middle name (due to a family tradition).
2. In high school, I had surgery after breaking my nose by getting hit with a field hockey stick during a game.
3. I worked on the ramp at Love Field Airport one summer and am officially trained in directing airplanes (aka that “marshaller” with the orange sticks!)
