KATHLEEN M.

Hometown: Bonsall, California

Double Major: Psychology and Spanish

What I want to do with my major: I plan on going to law school in the fall of 2013 to study Sports and Entertainment Law and/or International Law. My dream job would be to work for the Olympic Games in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Campus involvement: I was on the TCU Women’s Soccer team my first two years, but now I dedicate my athletic abilities to intramural sports. Split Happens, two-time bowling intramural champions. I am also part of the triathlon club, the TriFrogs. I’m President of VISA Corps, a member of JVR Honors Cabinet, and a JVR Peer Adviser.

Why I chose TCU: I had a checklist for college. I was so stubborn about my selection process that if one of these requirements were not met, I would just lose interest immediately. Other than top-notch academics, the school had to have good football and baseball, a lot of green grass, happy students, school pride, delicious food in the surrounding area, and a killer mascot. TCU met every one.

Why I’m glad I joined the JVR: The Honors College is my family at TCU…well, besides my actual family member, a freshman at TCU. I have always thought of JVR as a loving parent, with more kids than a normal parent, who wants you to be the best you can be. When you need a laugh…JVR. When you need a hug…JVR. When you need a little push to get going because you are procrastinating…JVR.

Favorite Honors class: My favorite Honors class has been U.S. Cultural Memory. Every student in this classroom wanted to be there. We studied Hawaiian history and culture in our TCU classroom and on the coast of Waikiki, literally. We spent a week in Hawaii together as a class and experienced the culture we had studied first hand.

Favorite place on TCU’s Campus: The football stadium at night

Favorite JVR memory: Ever since I watched my first pipeline competition on TV, I’ve dreamed of seeing the North Shore. In Hawaii with my Cultural Memory class, we took a bus out to the North Shore on my birthday. My heart smiled for days.

Coolest TCU or JVR experience: If I didn’t say my trip to Hawaii with my Cultural Memory class, I would be crazy.

Favorite TV show and why: It’s a toss up between 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and The Office. So I won’t choose any of those. The one and only show that I have seen every episode since its premiere in 1975 and quote daily is Saturday Night Live. Other than the wonderfully awful sketches, I love to watch all of the cast members celebrate the completion of another episode at the end of each showing when the credits are rolling.

Three unusual things about myself:

1. My mom dripped furniture stain on my leg when I was two, and it never came out. People think it’s a birthmark.

2. I always wish for a million more wishes every time I have the opportunity to make a wish, even though I know that’s cheating.

3. I believe Harry Potter spells can be applied to every day life. I often shout “Expelliarmus!” while swatting things out of people’s hands.
