RACHEL T.

Hometown: Mansfield, TX

Major: Business

What I want to do with my major: Heard of Accounting Forensics? Secret agent glasses and black suit jacket necessary.

Campus involvement: Milton Daniel Hall Council, theCrew, Frog Aides, SGA House of Representatives, and Elections and Regulations Committee

Why I chose TCU: One word: purple. I honestly wish I could say I was completely kidding, but that was actually my closing argument towards TCU to my father: “C’mon, Dad! Everyone loves purple! You look really nice in purple! Don’t you want me to be purple?” But there are a thousand other reasons TCU turned my head and heart towards the land of horned frogs. A longtime friend of my family’s had went to another university in the area for the first year and a half of his college experience and then transferred over to TCU. His words throughout the years enamored me and convinced me that TCU was the only place I could see myself. He spoke of the personal connection to professors (which has come true), the feeling of community (which is true), the strength of academia and Neeley (which is so true), and then general idea that there is nowhere else that can even compare (which, I completely un-biasedly say, is true).

Why I’m glad I joined the JVR: The real question is why am I not glad I joined the Honors College. Well, someone cue the crickets and the awkward silence, because you’ll be waiting a while if you’re expecting an answer to that! Let’s see, Milton Daniel Hall (the best Hall ever!), early enrollment, FREE gear, Honors Monday Breakfasts (yes, my life is centered around food, but trust me once you’ve had an Honors Breakfast, your life changes. Overly dramatic? Maybe, but even still. They’re good.), free massages, Honors Advising, deep discussions in class, classes that cover more than the three R’s and actually talk about real life, and much more! I love being in John V. Roach! Does it show?

Favorite Honors class: So far I have only had one Honors class, Survey of Music. There were 5 or 6 Honors students in a regular Survey of Music class, and so we ended up getting to teach, with a partner, a chapter to the class. It was a rather interesting experience. My partner and I decided to do the chapter’s history the way the textbook explained it, then we laced pop culture references through the PowerPoint to create interest. I love the freedom we have to incorporate innovative ideas!

Favorite place on TCU’s Campus: I personally really like the Commons. It is so pretty, especially from the balcony of the 3rd floor in the BLUU. I like to watch as activity unfolds in all different parts of it: a couple playing Frisbee, some friends studying on the grass, or theCrew sponsoring Turkey Bowling with music booming from a black rolling speaker.

Favorite JVR memory: Living in Milton Daniel Hall. It is absolutely incredible! From the moment I arrived on campus, Milton Daniel has been a community. Everyone who lives in Milton Daniel knows each other and the lounges and study pods are constantly full with groups of people working together and commiserating. Milton Daniel is a thousand laughs all the time. It is my favorite place to be.

Coolest TCU or JVR experience: Free massages. I feel that anything further I say about it could potentially take away from the pure amazingness that is free massages the first week of classes in the Great Hall of Milton Daniel.

Favorite TV show and why: M*A*S*H, because it’s witty and still relevant and current despite the fact that it’s been off the air nearly 30 years at this point. It’s just plain good entertainment for the active mind.

Three unusual things about myself: One: I am allergic to red dye. It’s a weird allergy that I’m sure you won’t mind if I don’t explain. Two: I will literally talk to anyone. When eating at Market Square in the BLUU, if I am standing next to someone in line to get something, we are going to have a conversation. Usually it’s simple stuff like, “What is that?” or “Isn’t it freezing outside today?” My roommate declares that this is unusual. I think people shouldn’t only talk to their normal group. I  like to make people feel included and meet new people. Three: I can braid my hair with one finger. It’s ok. I know you don’t believe me, but I can. I do it near constantly. So, if you see a young lady walking around campus braiding her hair with one finger, you’ve probably located me.
